TV ratings: Over the Rainbow bows out with 6.4m viewers

Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's latest theatrical talent show, Over the Rainbow, took its final curtain with almost 6.4 million viewers on Saturday 22 May. The final Over the Rainbow results show, which ended with Danielle Hope being voted the winner, attracted 6.392 million (30.2%) on BBC1 between 8.55pm and 9.30pm. Earlier, the last regular edition for the show had 5.592 million (34.2%) in the 7pm hour – making the two Over the Rainbow instalments the first and second most watched programmes on any network on Saturday. However, Over the Rainbow benefited from Britain's Got Talent being switched to Sunday night by ITV1 to make way for the first Champions League final to be broadcast on a Saturday evening. Live coverage of the Champions League final, in which José Mourinho's Internazionale beat Bayern Munich 2-0, averaged 3.559 million (17.9%) over two hours from 7.45pm. Full coverage, including pre- and post- match comment and analysis, averaged 2.959 million (15.8%) between 7pm and 10pm. This was nearly 30% down on ITV1's average Saturday audience share over this three hour period for the past three months. Sky Sports 1's coverage of the Champions League final averaged 644,000 (3.7%) between 6pm and 10.30pm.
