Leeds reaction to possible end of Asbos - what do you think?
A senior Leeds councillor has questioned plans to ditch antisocial behaviour orders (Asbos), claiming the measures were working well in Leeds. Labour councillor Peter Gruen , Leeds council's executive board member for neighbourhoods and housing, has spoken out after the home secretary, Theresa May , indicated she will kill off Tony Blair's flagship measure to deal with youth crime. May said yesterday that it was "time to move beyond the asbo", arguing that they were never the promised silver bullet and had too often put young people on a conveyor belt to prison. Cllr Gruen comment on ASBOs from Leeds City Council on Vimeo . Gruen said he wanted to know what would replace Asbos as a deterrent to antisocial behaviour. He added: "The fear of the public and the perception of the public of antisocial behaviour remains high, particularly with the elderly and vulnerable groups in society." What do you think? Are Asbos a good or a bad thing? Have your say in the comment section below.
