Kevin Pietersen plans World Twenty20 return after birth of baby boy

Kevin Pietersen is expected to return to the England squad in time for the World Twenty20 semi-finals – if they qualify – following the birth of his as yet unnamed son this morning. "The baby was born this morning without complication and both baby and Jessica are doing brilliantly," a statement on behalf of the Pietersen family said. "Kevin made a dramatic last-minute flight from Barbados to be by Jessica's side and be there for the birth." "This is the most amazing experience of my life," said Pietersen, who will stay with his wife and baby for a couple of days before returning to the West Indies, if required. England take the field for their final Group F match this evening, when they take on New Zealand knowing only a crushing defeat and Pakistan losing heavily will eliminate them, with the semi-finals due to be played on Thursday and Friday.
