Fancy footwork over a 'wooden' shoe cabinet
I placed an online order for a wooden shoe cabinet with Furniture in Fashion of Bolton, paying almost £85. It was described as "solid wood" but it was made of MDF, so I contacted the company to organise a return. I have been waiting since November but the painfully annoying web-based contact system simply doesn't work. KP, Rayleigh, Essex Furniture in Fashion is the trading name of World of Fashion (Manchester) Limited and its sole director is 72-year-old Mrs Shamim Akhtar. I have also tried to contact the business, but messages are ignored and the phone isn't answered. Bolton council said its trading standards service was already aware of other complaints and was "investigating". There may be a perfectly innocent explanation but it is interesting that, according to Companies House, Furniture in Fashion Limited has been incorporated in the last two weeks, with the sole director being Mohammed Asad Shamim. I put it to Mr Shamim that one company was being closed and another was rising from the ashes. This was denied and I was told the business was "running fine". But Mr Shamim has personally intervened and the shoe cabinet will be collected and a full refund made. Let me know if anything goes wrong with this arrangement.
