Four good reasons not to be the Football Association's chief executive

Premier League Aggressively safeguards its position as the richest and most powerful force in the game and will not allow the Football Association to stray into its territory. Since its foundation in 1992 the Premier League has striven to keep the FA in its box, specifically over reform of the governing body; the scope of its regulatory structure; and in responding to the government's request that rules on finance be harmonised across the professional game and that the principle of leveraged buyouts should be examined FA Council Made up of 92 elected representatives from the Premier League, Football League and county football associations, which include independent schools, Oxford and Cambridge universities and the three armed services. The members are derided as 'blazers' and repeatedly come under fire for supposedly being more interested in their perks, entitlements and status than in framing an agenda to modernise the running of the game. Lord Triesman, pictured, the FA chairman, has spoken about his desire to reform the council but has made no discernible progress in winning the argument and pushing it through Football League Often the piggy in the middle between the FA and Premier League, or the peacemaker, as it prefers to see itself, it still frequently ends up siding with its fellow member of the Professional Game Board to block the FA's proposals for reform The government Has a tendency to back-seat drive while attempting to keep its hands clean of the dirty work required to enact reform. When Andy Burnham, below, was the secretary of state at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, he urged the FA to take action on the probity of directors and shareholders and asked it to tackle the issue of debt. The government argues that it cannot directly regulate the game but it continues to hector the FA from the sidelines, lobbying for change without offering much practical help
