The Drums: The Drums

The Drums are living proof that nothing is sacred. Thus far, the knock-kneed refusenik pop of the original indie era – C86 is the shorthand – has remained a niche interest. From New York (via Florida) come the Drums, a foursome imbued with the sunshine of their best-known track, "Let's Go Surfing". Jangling tunes on their debut such as "Me and the Moon" are maddeningly catchy, adding the Strokes to their list of influences. Over 12 tracks, though, the Drums merely ape the poses of Orange Juice et al with none of the bristling critique implicit in that era's music.
