Pete Doherty fined for taking heroin ... to court

Pete Doherty has been fined £750 for turning up at court with heroin in his pocket. The Babyshambles singer was arrested in December in the corridor of Gloucester crown court moments after he had just been fined for driving under the influence . A security guard reportedly saw one of 13 wraps fall from his jacket pocket. "Either this was sheer stupidity or a ploy to get more publicity," judge Joti Boparai said earlier today. Doherty, who arrived 40 minutes late for court, was ordered to pay a £750 fine and £85 in court costs. Judge Boparai said the fine was issued because the singer was already paying for drug treatment privately. Doherty's lawyer, Bruce Clark, said: "He has a great many items of clothing, suits and clothes going into the hundreds. There were residual drugs that he had left in one coat pocket. He didn't necessarily choose the coat for himself." He added that Doherty, 30, felt "very stupid".
