TfL seeks managed ICT service

A tender notice in the Official Journal of the European Union on 28 June 2010, invites applications to provide the capital's transport authority with a managed ICT service. The deal has an estimated value of between £90m and £200m. "No new functionality is being introduced, but we are looking to improve reliability, resilience and scalability whilst improving the level of service to our customers," a TfL spokesperson told GC News. The scope of the contract will cover local area, wide area and metropolitan area network services; network data services; wireless services; mobile telecommunications; videoconferencing; VoIP; unified communications; network security services; and CCTV. The tender notice also says that a group made up of the Greater London Authority, London Development Agency, London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority and the Metropolitan Police Authority are investigating the possibility of sharing some back office functions, which include the services set out in TfL's procurement. It says that the contract will need to be capable of being expanded to "converge, transform and simplify" networks currently managed by other public sector bodies, but which could be transferred to TfL, as part of a shared services initiative. "Although the main aim of the contract is not about shared services, it will help facilitate the mayor's shared services initiative, Doing More Together," said the spokesperson.
