Newcastle set to ring the changes against Arsenal in the Carling Cup

Chris Hughton insists he will not sacrifice Newcastle's chances of staying in the Premier League for Carling Cup success. The Newcastle manager will resist the urge to field a full-strength team against Arsenal tomorrow night in what could be his side's only genuine chance of a trophy, focusing instead on Sunday's derby against Sunderland. "The priority this season is very much to secure our Premier League status." Hughton said. "That's the main focus. Cup games are a welcome distraction but preserving Premier League status is such a big part of this season. I'd absolutely rather stay in the Premier League from both a football and a financial viewpoint. "This is a massive club and it needs to be in the Premier League. Supporters want to see this team at the better end of the Premier League but we've got to go through a period of building first before we can do that." Hughton confirmed that the former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell would not be available against his old team, who he believes will also send out a weakened side. "I know how important this game is to the club and the supporters but the difficulty is we have a massive game against Sunderland here at the weekend which is part of our project of staying in this division. Sunderland is massively important and is our main priority. So yes there will be changes [against Arsenal]."
