Giggs: Let Em Ave It

You couldn't buy more any more street cred for your album than having the Metropolitan police's black gun-crime unit, Operation Trident, attempting to block its release. There is something uncomfortably seductive about Giggs's slow, menacing drawl and his tales from south London's coalface, particularly since rhymers such as Dizzee Rascal have swapped street chronicles for the pop life. Giggs, though, is only an intermittently satisfying lyricist; the gutter humour and compelling swing of tracks such as "Look What the Cat Dragged In" don't last the distance.
