Leeds today: Chapeltown's future, Leeds indie scene and high speed rail concerns

Good morning, Leeds. Today I'll be at Old Broadcasting House in Woodhouse Lane for Hacks and Hackers Hack Day Leeds - a chance for web developers and designers to pair up with journalists and bloggers to produce projects and stories based on public data. The event is sponsored by Guardian Open Platform , Guardian Local and Leeds Trinity Centre for Journalism . I'll be tweeting from the day-long event - follow the hashtag #hhhLeeds. Members of the Right To Work campaign are holding a lunchtime protest outside Vodafone in Commercial Street, Leeds. The Financial Times reports that Vodafone's flagship Oxford Street store was forced to close yesterday after protesters blockaded the entrance, accusing the company of failing to pay £6bn in taxes. What's making Leeds tick today? Government minister Theresa Villiers has told Central Tonight that the planned high-speed rail link from London through the Midlands to Leeds is not a done deal. Her comments come as environmental campaigners claim the scheme will destroy huge chunks of the countryside and make their concerns known about the scheme.
