Can Asda be top dog?

Walmart failed to make Asda bigger than Tesco in food so now the sights are being reset: the ambition is to be number one in non-food in the UK in five years. The aim is to lift the Asda Living chain from 25 stores to 150. But will that, on its own, be enough for Asda to become top dog in non-food? Unlikely. The City is right to smell an acquisition – just not immediately, and not necessarily Home Retail.
