Mervyn, the driller killer

Mervyn Davies, the former boss of Standard Chartered, has always been such an affable chap, but a short spell in government as a trade minister seems to have turned him into some sort of driller killer. He is determined that bankers are not allowed to forget the major part they played in bringing western economies "to their knees". The lessons learned in the near-meltdown, he said , "must be drilled into their skulls". Drilling into their wallets, he says, is also essential, but neither Britain, Europe, or the US can go it alone. "We need a global solution ... Let's get real." Bravo, Mervyn.
