Media Talk: BBC plans to axe 6 Music

It's been a bad week for lovers of new music – so it's with delicious irony that Matt Wells and the Media Talk team were booted out of their regular, roomy studio so that an obscure indie band could record a session for our Music Weekly podcast . Nevertheless, Maggie Brown and Paul Robinson cram into the makeshift pod to analyse director general Mark Thompson's cuts – the most radical in the BBC's history. 6 Music was the headline casualty in the DG's new strategy to do fewer things better – so what now for the future of DAB ? Also in the podcast, BBC political editor Nick Robinson gives us his reaction as the leaders' TV debates finally get the go-ahead (with a mere 76 rules and regulations , of course). Plus, we discuss ITV's return to profit; Stephen Carter's new job; and Greg Dyke's mooted return to the big time as the next editor of the Independent.
