A timeline of how the iPlayer developed

July 2007: Launches as a basic peer-to-peer downloading service Christmas Day 2007: First major relaunch as iPlayer debuts streaming service. July 2008: Second major relaunch with integrated radio and TV player, simulcasting and upgraded features such as an EPG 2009: BBC iPlayer receives upgrades including high definition programming and is extended to more than 20 devices including mobile phones, connected TVs and games consoles May 2010: BBC iPlayer gets third major relaunch with social and customisable features as well as promoting and linking to programmes on services run by rivals for the first time
