John Lewis cleaner breakage left me steaming
I bought a steam cleaner from John Lewis in August 2008. Within the guarantee period, the on/off switch broke. The relevant part was replaced by John Lewis without trouble but, after only a few uses, the same fault returned. John Lewis tells me repairs outside the guarantee period are not its concern. The manufacturer is now in liquidation, so I cannot replace the part at my own expense even if I wish to. My view is that a recurrence of the fault indicates there was a weakness in the product, which makes John Lewis liable within the product's lifetime. The cleaner cost approximately £250 and was always used with care and according to the instructions provided. PA , Birmingham • Your view is reasonable and John Lewis agreed to review this case. It quickly concluded that as the same fault occurred within the guarantee, it should have replaced your cleaner. It has now done so. Can we help?
