Henry Mancini: The Music From Peter Gunn

Peter Gunn was an American TV private eye series that ran between 1958 and 1961. Never shown in Britain, it is remembered for two things - it was an early creation of Blake Edwards, and it had an award-winning jazz score, played by real jazz musicians. This is it, plus various spin-offs, on a double CD. Mancini was a jazz man at heart and given half a chance he could turn out strong, memorable themes endlessly. There are some great ones here, powerfully played, with especially good solos from trumpeter Pete Candoli and Larry Bunker on vibes.
