BA strike to resume on Sunday for five days
The second wave of five-day strikes by British Airways cabin crew is set to go ahead on Sunday after peace talks with the Unite trade union broke down. Derek Simpson, joint general secretary of Unite, blamed the failure on BA's chief executive, Willie Walsh. BA has refused to fully reinstate travel discounts that were stripped from thousands of flight attendants who took part in two strikes in March. Simpson's page on Twitter said: "Willie Walsh continues to block a settlement to the BA dispute – this no cost matter will costs BA millions and continue passengers' pain." BA said the talks had been adjourned and that the Acas conciliation service was seeking to schedule further discussions. Cabin crew are also set to strike on 5-9 June, days before the start of the football World Cup in South Africa.
