Man arrested in Raoul Moat shootings inquiry

A man has been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences in connection with the Raoul Moat investigation, Northumbria police said today. His arrest brings the total number of people taken into custody in connection with Moat's crimes to 16. "Police have today arrested a 23-year-old man from Newcastle on suspicion of firearms offences in connection with this investigation," a police spokesman said. Of the 16 arrested, 13 – all of whom were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender – have been released on police bail pending further inquiries. Only two of the 16 have been charged. Qhuram Awan, 23, of Blyth, Northumberland, and Karl Ness, 26, of Dudley, North Tyneside, appeared before magistrates on 8 July charged with conspiracy to commit murder and possession of a firearm in connection with the Moat inquiry. They were remanded in custody until 22 July, when they will appear at Newcastle crown court.
