GLA awards deal for electronic vote counting

The GLA said that the system will be used for the 2012 London mayoral and assembly elections, potentially the elections held in 2016 and for additional events involving public votes. According to a notice published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 25 September 2010, the supplier will also be responsible for the printing and distribution of ballot papers, the provision of ballot boxes, and for providing specialist consultancy services concerning the development and delivery of the electronic vote counting system. IntElect will be required to supply related documentation and verification about the performance of the vote counting machine, the authority added. In the past, the Electoral Commission has opposed the GLA's plans to use such machines in London's mayoral and assembly elections, due to doubts over past performance.
