Cardiff today: Ryder Cup aftermath, Bay clean up, and student lock-in

Good morning Cardiff! The public protection committee will meet at County Hall this morning and the children and young persons scrutiny committee will meet at 4.30pm this afternoon. This evening there'll be a student lock in at St David's shopping centre with special discounts to welcome the influx of new arrivals to the city – who have just completed freshers' week. There'll be makeovers, goody bags, entertainment and competitions so if you're a student and this appeals to you make sure you get down to to Crabtree & Evelyn in the Hayes with your student card to register. The lock-in starts at 7.30pm. Lyndon Davies will be reading poetry tonight at the Old Library from 6.30pm. Roadworks are set to continue in the city centre today following the final day of the Ryder Cup. But weren't the few days respite from the diggers a glimpse of bliss to come when the city centre is freed from the red and yellow bollards and chaotic diversions? Our poll last week asked you whether as a Cardiff local you cared much for the Ryder Cup. Out of more than 100 voters, 70% of you said you'd be avoiding the tournament completely, 24% said you'd watch the match on TV and just 5% of our readers were actually attending the event.
