The Secret Sisters: The Secret Sisters — review

Anyone hoping for more of the deranged zing of "Big River", the Secret Sisters' debut single with Jack White, might be disappointed by the duo's strait-laced debut album. But there is still a lot going for Laura and Lydia Rogers, Tennessee sisters whose harmonies evoke freshly laundered gingham. Recorded under the aegis of T-Bone Burnett, this album's anti-modernism is as much of a pose as any other form of "authenticity". But this is the kind of homespun entertainment that used to sustain America, and if some of the cover versions push the limits of cutesy, songs like "Tennessee Me" exude charm.
