A TV licence to threaten - with no way to make contact
We moved into our rented flat last May and transferred our existing TV licence using the automated phone service. We hold a paper licence for the new property but TV Licensing has written warning that enforcement officers will visit us. There is no return address or telephone number on the letters and I can find no way of contacting a real person to explain. We have a shared entrance and letter box and I am embarrassed that our neighbours think we don't pay our bills. SMcD, London TV Licensing admits that it discourages customers from phoning to keep down call centre costs. To find a phone number on the website, you first have to ask a question in writing. After that, a "contact us" box appears which, when clicked, reveals the call centre number 0844 800 6790. At least TV Licensing has discovered why you were unable to convince it you had a licence. This had nothing to do with transferring to a new address, which had in fact been noted. TV Licensing had been changing a block of data on its computer and a temporary internet file caused your information to become corrupted. It has now been corrected. • Email Margaret Dibben at [email protected] or write to Margaret Dibben, Your Problems, The Observer, Kings Place, 90 York Way, London N1 9GU and include a telephone number.
