Morten Rasmussen quick to get off the mark for Tony Mowbray and Celtic

At least Celtic had an excuse. For the first time since his summer arrival at Parkhead, Tony Mowbray fielded a team that included more players whom he had signed than inherited. The outcome was successful, if far from pretty, and wild scenes of celebration marked Morten Rasmussen's winning goal. Only two members of Mowbray's 18-man squad at Hamilton class Scotland as their home nation, a statistic that is unlikely to change once the transfer window has closed. Sean St Ledger, Ivan Ramis and Diomansy Kamara are the names at the summit of Mowbray's wish-list as he seeks added defensive and attacking strength. "The football language is the same," said the Celtic debutant Jos Hooiveld in rejecting the notion that too many nationalities can make for a confused dressing room. "We have a good group of lads, young boys who are all really hungry and who want to win prizes. That's a good thing. Now we have to make sure all heads are in the same direction and if we make sure of that I think we are quite unstoppable." They will need to be. Celtic head to Kilmarnock on Tuesday to play out their game in hand over Rangers. The Ibrox team's dismissal of Falkirk yesterday means they have maintained a 10-point and 19-goal advantage. "I have been in worse situations and we still won," said Hooiveld. "In Sweden [with AIK Stockholm] at one point halfway in the season we were 11 points behind Gothenburg and in the end we were four points in front." Marc-Antoine Fortuné missed a stoppage-time penalty for Celtic at New Douglas Park, a matter which counted for nothing other than summing up a dismal contest. As Fortuné and his team-mates have the agenda of overhauling Rangers in mind, Mowbray could not resist his latest dig at a Scottish media which, he believes, has negatively reported even transfer dealings. "It interests me to see how it can be spun into a negative, that you are trying to sign new players," the manager said. "People have said I am bringing in too many at the same time. I am just trying to do my job, really, to try and build a team." Man of the match Jos Hooiveld (Celtic)
