Clubs picks of the week

Rockfeedback X, London Swinging open its doors for the first time this week, new venue XOYO celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Rockfeedback website. From the Field Day, Eat Your Own Ears and Bugged Out! gangs, XOYO – in a converted printing works – has all the ingredients to become the latest east London hot spot. Boasting live shows and DJ sets, this Friday will feature British Sea Power, Future Of The Left, Anna Calvi, Three Trapped Tigers and Pulled Apart By Horses. Playing records will be the Maccabees, Geoff Travis of Rough Trade, Goldiereocks and Bloc Party Vs Co-Pilot, plus DJs from White Heat, Young And Lost Club and Eat Your Own Ears. XOYO, EC2, Fri Leonie Cooper Grind, Bristol His sets at Ibiza's Zoo Project have been one of the club's highlights this year and his summer anthem Elle has been a particular favourite with the discerning Grind jocks. So Pablo Cahn-Speyer will be particularly welcome down at Timbuk2 tonight. This Colombian pin-up was raised in the salsa and meringue dancehalls of Bogota and retains a smidgen of Latin feel to a style encompassing dub-inflected house and minimal grooves, all the way to the lighter end of techno. Consistently hailed as one of Bristol's best clubs for a good atmosphere, the tight confines of Timbuk2 should be the ideal place to appreciate the skills of this highly accomplished mixer and technician. Regular Grind suspects Clinton Brown and James Lanceley get things going and room two features the Get Down collective playing funk, soul and grooves of a rare nature. Timbuk2, Small Street, Sat John Mitchell Discotekken, Dublin While it's not exactly the best day to be marking an upbeat anniversary, the Discotekken folks are determined to lighten up an otherwise sombre occasion by celebrating the culmination of their first year of Italo disco, house and electro, courtesy of their top-notch roster of residents, as well as regular guests including DMX Krew, Space Dimension Controller, In Flagranti and TR-One. Tonight sees the addition of Dutch Italo disco veteran DJ, producer and Intergalactic FM broadcaster I-f (Clone/Viewlexx/Unit Moebius) to the roll of honour for a birthday bash in the basement and, while I-f's slightly insensitive electroclash smash Space Invaders Are Smoking Grass may just get an airing, Louis Scully and Chris O'Donohoe guarantee a seemly playlist spanning 40 years of dance. The Twisted Pepper, Middle Abbey Street, Sat Patric Baird SS Atlantica, London Sailing courtesy of the Bourne & Hollingsworth retro soiree maestros, the SS Atlantica brings you all the fun of travelling first class on a 1930s liner without any bothersome time-travelling business. Part of the glamorous docks'n'yachts Thames Revival wing of the Mayor's Thames Festival, the SS Atlantica, an art deco luxury clipper called the Silver Sturgeon is, rather fittingly, setting sail from the Savoy Pier, which sits just below the currently-being-revamped sumptuous hotel of the same name. The maiden voyage of the SS Atlantica will consist of a scenic trip down the river with champers and vintage cocktails in easy reach. There will of course be some big band action for the chaps to swing the dames around to, but also games of cards, dominoes and roulette as well as swish cabaret shows, dancers and singers. Boarding takes place at 9pm. Bon voyage! Sailing from Savoy Pier, WC2, Sat Leonie Cooper Saytek/Cubism EP Launch, Birmingham Modern electronic house maverick Saytek seems to be getting things right, his spontaneous sets being the backbone of both his reputation and his releases, which are often re-edited and remixed versions of his performances. Tonight sees him launch his new Cubism EP at The Rainbow and his improvised response to the crowd will, as usual, mark him out from more standard live dance acts. Rainbow Pub, High Street, Digbeth, Sat Marc Rowlands
