Free 'b' campaigners take one last lap

Organisers of the Free 'b' bus protest, due to take place today, took one last lap on the bus after it was announced this week it would be discontinued. The Free 'b' bus was originally intended to help the elderly and disabled get around the pedestrianised zone in Cardiff city centre. But figures emerged showing the council's sustainable travel initiative bus was not only costly to run, but was picking up few passengers making it bad for the environment. A Facebook protest was planned for today, but Cardiff Council announced they would be scrapping the Free 'b' service and replacing it with a smaller electrically powered vehicle within the next month. Organisers Nathan Collins and Daniel Grosvenor told me they were disappointed the protest could not go ahead as they had planned – but in the end it has been a triumph for the people.
