Salvage

This low-budget British horror movie could have been pitched as George Romero comes to Brookside . It's set on Christmas Eve in a middle-class enclave in Liverpool where the inhabitants wake up to discover the neighbourhood has been cordoned off by police marksmen and the SAS and blood is splattered everywhere. Are al-Qaida terrorists at large? Or is it something connected with a container washed up on a local beach? The narrative is sometimes a trifle muffled, but the central characters are quickly etched, the gory tension works, and the whole has a B-movie leanness.
