Steven Taylor interested in staying at Newcastle if deal can be done
Steven Taylor has suggested he would be happy to remain at Newcastle United if he can agree a new contract. The former England Under-21 international defender, who is much admired by Steve McClaren, the Wolfsburg coach, as well as Liverpool's new manager, Roy Hodgson, has not played for Chris Hughton's side since sustaining a knee injury in January but is expected to make his comeback in a friendly at Carlisle tomorrow. Taylor, who has one year left on his current deal, said: "I've been to hell and back. It was unbelievably tough when I was injured last season – it was so frustrating. "Hopefully it [the new contract] will get sorted. I've got a year left and my agent is in talks with the club. I've left it to him – that's the best thing for me. I just want to play football, that's all I'm focused on. Running out in front of 52,000 at St James' Park is the best feeling in the world."
