The Open 2010: Louis Oosthuizen's caddie had been set for sack
The caddie who helped Louis Oosthuizen plot his shock Open win had been set for the sack just days beforehand. Zack Rasego, from Soweto, had already been told he was going to be released at the end of the week in St Andrews. Together, the pair had missed three successive cuts in the run-up to the tournament. Talks had reportedly even opened between Oosthuizen and Mike Kerr, the Durban-based caddie of Nick Dougherty. Oosthuizen's manager Chubby Chandler said: "It was a possibility but it is not going to happen now. "There was a feeling Louis needed a more experienced caddie. Now Zack has proved his worth. It would not look too clever to sack your caddie after you have just won a major." Exact details of Rasego's pay are unclear but most caddies are handed about 10% of their partner's winnings, which would mean Rasego picking up around £85,000 for helping plot his partner's way round a blustery St Andrews. He began caddying as a boy at the Sun City holiday resort as an escape from his township upbringing.
