This week's new DVD & Blu-ray

Metropolis: Reconstructed And Restored DVD & Blu-ray, Eureka Never give up hope. That's not the message of the film itself, but it is something we can glean from the almost miraculous existence of this newly reconstructed two-hour, 30-minute version. Huge chunks of the movie, over a quarter of the total running time, were hacked away shortly after its original 1927 release. For decades all versions have been incomplete – and there have been many, including a much-derided 1984 release overseen by music producer Giorgio Moroder which tinted the visuals and added a soundtrack featuring Freddie Mercury, Pat Benatar and Bonnie Tyler. Hardly dignified but it kept the film in the public consciousness. Metropolis is spectacular, especially considering that it was made long before CGI; all the film's wonders are hand-made in glass, metal, wood and paint. This is a film that has influenced every film since involving robots, futuristic cities and mad scientists. This new version exceeds all expectations, incorporating footage that had lain undisturbed for over half a century in an archive in Buenos Aires. This ranges from a few frames to entire sequences that change the shape of the movie. Even today's restorative techniques can't stop it from looking badly scratched and blotchy (the rest of the film is pristine), but these additions are more than welcome and serve as an occasional reminder of just how old this classic really is. Toy Story 1-3 Teddy bear Lotso joins Woody and the gang in Pixar's enduring modern classic. Box set and TS3 both available. DVD & Blu-ray, Walt Disney Studios Peeping Tom Restored version of Michael Powell's controversial serial-killer drama. Blu-ray, Optimum Heartbreaker Romain Duris and Vanessa Paradis in a French romcom. DVD & Blu-ray, Revolver The Hammer And Tongs Collection Compilation of witty videos for Blur, Vampire Weekend and Radiohead. DVD, Optimum Coco And Igor Romance following Coco Chanel and Stravinsky in 1920s Paris. DVD & Blu-ray, Soda
