Guiseley and Rawdon by-election: Residents' thoughts on local issues

What are the issues bringing out voters in Guiseley and Rawdon today? Vicky Walker, 32, Larkfield Road Rawdon, full time mum I voted by post. Education issues are my concern but local issues are my main priority. The child benefit cut won't affect me but I do agree with it. I'm pleasantly surprised at how it's been handled. The future of the country is key to me now I have children – before I was a bit selfish." James Hudson, 74, Nursery Road, Guiseley. "It's about facilities for the children to get them off the street. I used to be in scouts so it's important to me. Whether my candidate gets in or not, I don't know. I think there's people really disillusioned with it all. Liberals are trying to get in people's good books again. I think they upset people by not going with Labour." Carol Healeas, Larkfield Mount, Rawdon "I do think about local issues but I've always voted for who I'm voting for today. But it shouldn't be used to judge the Coalition. You've got to remember who got us into this mess – people have short memories. I think they're getting us on the right track." Mrs Hutchinson, Rawdon, Larkfield Drive, 87, retired "If you want something in life you have to work for it, I was always told that. "They all hang around the billing, they leave such a mess. It's disgusting and such a waste – there's a lovely green just round the corner that no-one uses." Jean Mitchell, 77, Harrogate Road, Rawdon "All these hooligans – lads and lasses – they want sorting out. Give them something to do." Guest blogger Danny Wright is a journalism student at Leeds Trinity College. What do you think? Have your say in the comments section below.
