James Roby comes off bench to help St Helens thrash Castleford

James Roby produced the kind of display that once had him rated as the world's leading hooker and helped St Helens make some amends for their Good Friday defeat by Wigan. Roby came off the bench with the scores level to provide a number of surging runs and score two well-taken tries in what became a one-sided victory over an injury-hit Castleford side. Roby was not the only Saint to shine, with the young scrum‑half Kyle Eastmond enhancing his reputation and Leon Pryce revelling in his new position, of full‑back. Castleford were completely out-gunned at times. A small group of supporters protesting against the club's board after seeing three wins in the first 10 matches of the season. "They're entitled to have their say and their opinion," the Castleford coach, Terry Matterson, said. "We're struggling at the moment and that's not a secret – we've got seven of our first team out. It got a bit difficult for us today against a very good side, and I thought we competed well in the first half. Things are tough at the moment but we've got to ride it through." The two sides had contested a relatively tight first half‑hour, with Eastmond taking a wonderful Tony Puletua pass to open the scoring before Francis Meli crossed out wide. Castleford responded with eye-catching tries from Craig Huby and Ryan Clayton but the introduction of Roby changed the game. It was one of his runs that led to Maurie Fa'asavalu giving Saints the lead just before half-time and Roby scored himself soon after the restart. St Helens tries then came at regular intervals, thanks to Meli, Eastmond, Puletua, Pryce and Roby again. Joe Westerman and Michael Shenton interrupted the visitors' dominance.
