Birmingham's Alexander Hleb may yet face former club Arsenal at Wembley
Alex McLeish has not ruled out the possibility of Alexander Hleb lining up against his former club Arsenal in the Carling Cup final on Sunday after a scan revealed he has not suffered knee ligament damage, as had been feared. The Birmingham City manager expects to make a decision on Hleb in the morning after the midfielder, who was taken off on a stretcher during Saturday's FA Cup victory over Sheffield Wednesday, has seen a surgeon in London. "We'll not rule him out at this stage, we're getting some more professional opinion," McLeish said. "He got a fair rap on the inside of his knee; we feared it was ligament damage. There is some bruising there but we'll probably have a better idea in the morning. "Hleb's obviously got very quick feet and he can mesmerise most defenders but it was a late tackle and he [the Wednesday player] apologised after the game, but it would be disappointing if he was to miss out. He's a fantastic footballer and he's got a lot of experience, so that would be important in a game of this magnitude."
