Jimi Hendrix: Valleys of Neptune
What depths are there to the Hendrix archives and legacy? This is a "newly curated" album of 12 recordings, centred on tracks laid down in a four-month period in 1969. Some are scarcely revelatory, such as the original Jimi Hendrix Experience version of "Hear My Train a Comin''' – except, of course, if this music is new to the listener, in which case, the experienced fan will be able to hear the sound of newcomers' jaws hitting the floor. Add in a Cream cover and the title track – now with bassist Billy Cox on board – and it hits the peaks.
