Champions League: Arsenal v Porto

After missing a hat full of chances against Burnley at the weekend, Bendtner must be pleased that he was able to find the net when he poked the ball home from 16 yards out Photograph: Tom Jenkins Photograph: guardian.co.uk Just 15 minutes later, another Bendtner strike puts Arsenal in front, as it's now 2-0 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate. The goal was created by Andrey Arshavin, whose dazzling footwork enabled him to skip past three defenders on the left-hand side of the box and slash a ball across the face of goal. Bendtner, who was all alone, had managed to stay just on side and he gratefully slammed the ball into the net Photograph: Tom Jenkins Photograph: guardian.co.uk Arshavin teases the Porto defence with another jinking run Photograph: Tom Jenkins At the end of the first half, Samir Nasri swings in a corner. Abou Diaby connects and powers a downward header goalwards but he is denied by a superb save from Helton Photograph: Tom Jenkins Photograph: guardian.co.uk Not all that Bendtner touches tonight turns to gold, though he does well to gets in a header ahead of Rolando, it is high and wide of the mark Photograph: Tom Jenkins Just past the hour mark, Nasri has his back to goal when he receives the ball near the touchline on the right, but a quick spin takes him past one defender and he speeds into the penalty area... Photograph: Tom Jenkins Photograph: guardian.co.uk .... and when he's just outside it, he spanks the ball low past Helton, off the far post and into the net to make it 3-0 Photograph: Tom Jenkins Photograph: guardian.co.uk Nasri celebrates after notching his wonder goal as fellow scorer Bendtner sets off in hot pursuit. A bemused Porto defender sits and ponders what the heck just happened Photograph: Tom Jenkins Photograph: guardian.co.uk Two minutes later Arsenal score another fabulous goal to make it 4-0. This time it's on the counter attack and it's Eboue who scored. A Porto corner was headed clear and Arshavin picked the ball up halfway inside his own half and scampered forward, accelerating past Porto defenders. Ahead of him Eboue made a run down the centre and Arshavin picked him out superbly and Eboue took the ball around the keeper and slide the ball into the net from a tight angle Photograph: Tom Jenkins With his team cruising into the quarter finals, a serene Arsene Wenger looks on from the touchline Photograph: Tom Jenkins In the final minute of the match, Eboue twists and darts his way into the box before being shoved over by Fucile. The referee blows his whistle and points to the spot. Unsurprisingly Bendtner demands to take the spotkick. He hits the ball low and to his left... Photograph: Tom Jenkins ...and into the corner just beyond the finger tips of Helton to notch Arsenal's fifth and his first hat-trick since arriving in England in 2004 Photograph: Tom Jenkins Photograph: guardian.co.uk The happy Arsenal players have a team huddle at the final whistle as they celebrate their 5-0 annihilation of Porto and making it through to the quarter finals Photograph: Tom Jenkins Photograph: guardian.co.uk
