Bryan Ferry recruits Roxy Music for solo album

Bryan Ferry has announced a new solo album, recording with his Roxy Music band-mates for the first time since 1973. Olympia will also feature contributions from Pink Floyd's David Gilmour, Scissor Sisters and Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood. Unless you are attending this weekend's Lovebox festival in London, or Bestival in September, Olympia may offer the last, best chance to hear Ferry, Phil Manzanera, Andy Mackay and Brian Eno perform. While Roxy Music will reconvene for those two festival dates, plans for a new album were scrapped after unsatisfying studio sessions last year. "We worked together for a few days, weeks maybe, and I decided I didn't really want to do a Roxy thing," Ferry explained to the Times in November. The group's original lineup haven't released an album together since 1973's For Your Pleasure. Instead, Ferry has enlisted an array of guests, from Chic frontman Nile Rodgers to Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea. If this weren't already enough, there are the aforementioned alumni of Pink Floyd, Radiohead and Scissor Sisters, plus Primal Scream bassist Mani. The tracklist also includes Shameless, a song that originally appeared – with vocals from Ferry – on Groove Armada's recent album. Ferry's last solo record, 2007's Dylanesque, was a collection of Bob Dylan covers. For Olympia, he is returning to original material – with two exceptions: No Face, No Name, No Number by 1960s rockers Traffic, and a cover of Tim Buckley's Song to the Siren, known to many via This Mortal Coil. Olympia will be released on 25 October, preceded by the single You Can Dance on 9 August.
