Danny Cipriani reveals Wasps team-mates are begging him to stay
Danny Cipriani, whose man-of-the-match display in Wasps' 42-26 win over Gloucester in the Amlin Challenge Cup quarter-finals has thrown him back into the spotlight, has revealed that club team-mates are encouraging him to renege on his deal to join the Melbourne Rebels to stay with the club. There is little prospect of that happening, given he has signed a two-year deal with the Australian side and is due to join them at the end of the season, but Cipriani did suggest there are circumstances that might encourage him to stay – "If we win a few trophies you never know," he said. For now, however, a possible Guinness Premiership and European double would seem little more than a particularly impressive farewell. "After days like that you do receive some taps on the shoulder to stay. If we win a few trophies you never know," he told the Press Association. "I am very happy with the decision I have made and I am going to go and play some rugby and learn as much as I can and hopefully return the best player I can. "I have been happy with how I have played in the last couple of games and I just want to keep that going to the end of the season and hopefully help Wasps win two trophies. It is definitely within our grasp." Wasps will face Cardiff Blues in the semi-final after they demolished Newcastle 55-20. "We have scored 88 points in the last two away games and that is a good thing in anybody's book, but we are keeping our feet on the ground," said Blues' director of rugby, Dai Young. "Things went for us today, I think the odd bounce of the ball went our way but we did play well."
