José Reina 'has not told' Roy Hodgson he wants to leave Liverpool
José Reina has dismissed reports that he has told Roy Hodgson he wants to leave Liverpool. The Spain goalkeeper said: "I have seen a newspaper has made this suggestion. It is completely untrue. I have not told the manager that I wish to leave in January or at any other time. It is important our fans know this. I have a long-term contract at Liverpool and I am fully committed to the club. Our new owner [John W Henry of New England Sports Ventures] met me and some of the other players last week and I was very happy with what he told me." Reina, who has played in 18 of Liverpool's 21 games this season, said: "The entire squad and staff are working very hard to get us back competing at the top of the table. We will not be distracted by inaccurate media speculation." Liverpool are away to Stoke City in the Premier League tomorrow afternoon. Reina is in Spain's squad for their friendly against Portugal in Lisbon on Wednesday. The Spain coach, Vicente del Bosque, has recalled the Liverpool striker Fernando Torres and the Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernández for the match. Torres and Xavi missed the world champions' last two European Championship qualifiers, against Lithuania and Scotland, through injury. The Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fábregas and Real Madrid defender Raúl Albiol also return to the squad. Villarreal's Santi Cazorla replaces the injured Jesús Navas, in the only change to the 23-man group that won the World Cup in South Africa in July.
