Wakefield pay heavy price for victory over Harlequins

Wakefield Trinity could pay a heavy price for their opening Super League victory against Harlequins at the Stoop yesterday. Terry Newton, the former Great Britain forward who joined Trinity from Bradford Bulls last autumn, suffered a suspected torn biceps shortly after making his debut off the interchange bench. "We'll know more when we get the results of Terry's scans back on Monday but it doesn't look good," said the Wakefield coach John Kear. Trinity are in danger of having their England prop Richard Moore suspended for Sunday's home game against the Catalans Dragons after he was sent off with the Harlequins forward Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook late in Trinity's 18-10 win . Andy Lynch will lead Bradford into their first Super League fixture at Huddersfield on Friday after being appointed the new Bulls captain following Paul Deacon's move to Wigan. Lynch, a 30-year-old prop who joined Bradford from Castleford in 2005, admitted that even he was surprised to have been given the nod ahead of either of the club's more decorated Australians, Steve Menzies and Matt Orford. "Andy epitomises everything we are about at the Bulls," said the Bradford coach Steve McNamara.
