England prop Phil Vickery out of Six Nations but Julian White returns

Tighthead prop was a problem position for England in the autumn, with Phil Vickery and Julian White injured, and Wasps said today that Vickery, who is recovering from neck surgery, would not start training for another two months. He is out of the Six Nations. Leicester, however, expect White, who has not played since October after he suffered a torn hamstring, to return against Viadana next week. "It looks like Julian will make his comeback next week and that gives him a chance for the Six Nations," said Leicester's head coach, Richard Cockerill. "He suffered a serious injury and ended up needing surgery, but working on his farm has kept him fit and it will be good to have him back, with Martin Castrogiovanni likely to be out for another couple of weeks." England used Bath's David Wilson against Australia but he was ruled out of the matches against Argentina and New Zealand with injury. His club-mate Duncan Bell was recalled, with Gloucester's Paul Doran-Jones added to the squad. Wasps had hoped that Vickery, who was operated on in October, would be back in action next month, but they yesterday said the former England captain was not expected to resume training until March. The flanker Joe Worsley will miss at least the first two rounds of the Six Nations as he recovers from knee ligament damage. He is not expected to return to training with Wasps for another month. With Leicester's match against Wasps the only Premiership game to survive the weather, Glasgow demanded compensation after being left "disappointed and frustrated" by the cancellation of tonight's Magners League game at Leinster. The match was postponed due to a frozen pitch following an 11am inspection at the Royal Dublin Showground. Glasgow, who had flown to Dublin, said: "The Warriors, who travelled to Dublin yesterday, did so on the advice of Leinster officials who expected the game to go ahead as planned. A number of travelling fans have also been severely inconvenienced."
