Middlesbrough hope to bring in Kris Boyd and Gary Caldwell
The Middlesbrough manager, Gordon Strachan, has made moves for two players from the Scottish Premier League. Strachan, a former Celtic manager, has opened talks with representatives of the Rangers striker Kris Boyd and is understood to have agreed a deal with Celtic's Gary Caldwell. Both players are out of contract in the summer. Although it is almost certain Caldwell, a central defender, will move to Teesside, Boyd's situation is more complicated. He is also on the radar of Birmingham City and is thought to be keen to see out the season at Rangers.
