Richard Hannon adds Cadeaux Pearl to strong Goodwood team
The unstoppable Richard Hannon added another runner to his strong team for Glorious Goodwood next week when Richard Hughes steered Cadeaux Pearl to a smooth 10-length success in the juvenile maiden at Sandown. Hannon's son and assistant Richard Jr said: "He has won by 10 lengths and not many bad ones do that. Hughesie was impressed and we'll look at a six‑furlong nursery for him at Goodwood next week." The Hannon team's three-year-old colts Canford Cliffs and Dick Turpin were among 13 horses left in Wednesday's Sussex Stakes at today's confirmation stage. Following victories in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot on his last two outings, Canford Cliffs is the 4-5 favourite with Ladbrokes for the Group One event. Stablemate Dick Turpin, winner of the Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly last time out, is 7-2, as is last year's winner, Rip Van Winkle, who heads five possibles from the Aidan O'Brien stable, along with the three‑year-olds Beethoven, Black Quartz, Encompassing and Steinbeck. Premio Loco's connections were happy to stump up the £19,500 to add him to the field, even though the six-year-old already holds an entry in Tuesday's Betfair Cup. "We gave him the option of the Betfair Cup as a fall-back, but this looks a good opportunity for a chance in Group One company," said his trainer Chris Wall. "He won well at Ascot and one could argue that he could have done it rather more convincingly with a clearer run. He has continued to be in good form at home since that race and he has also won the Listed On The House Stakes on his only previous start at Goodwood."
