Cardiff City given 28 days to settle tax bill after high court date
Cardiff City were given an extra 28 days to settle their bill with the taxman after they appeared in the high court to fight their winding-up order today. The 2008 FA Cup finalists were able to pay off £1m of their debt to Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs after selling off land around their new ground at the Cardiff City Stadium in the Welsh capital. However, they still need to find another £1.6m by 10 March or face another winding-up order. The club's most recent accounts, to May 2008, show it had debts of almost £33m. Southend United, who appeared at the same sessions, were also given a stay of 28 days . They are in dispute with HMRC over the amount of debt they are owed.
