Julie Fleeting inspires Arsenal to FA Cup semi-final win over Chelsea

The return to regular action of the Scotland striker Julie Fleeting can inspire Arsenal to a fifth successive Premier League and FA Cup double, said the manager, Laura Harvey, after the prolific goal scorer's early strike set the Gunners on the way to a 4-0 semi-final victory over Chelsea today. Fleeting has not completed a full 90 minutes for Arsenal this season after giving birth to her first child last July. But after marking her return to Scotland duty with four goals in Thursday's 8-1 World Cup qualifying victory over Bulgaria – the goals taking her international tally to 111 in 111 appearances – the 29-year-old striker played an hour today before being substituted with the Gunners four goals ahead. "Julie did what we needed her to do and the game was looking pretty safe when we took her off," Harvey said. "She's found the going tough after her pregnancy, but she's just had 10 days away with Scotland and that's been good for her. She trained hard and she's getting back towards full fitness, although I don't think she's up to playing a full game just yet. "We're having to manage her in terms of her fitness and she probably won't be able to play in all of our remaining games. We've got 13 in the next seven weeks, including the FA Cup final. We've got players who can come in when Julie's not around, but she'll play a key part in what we're hoping will be another successful end to our season." Everton – Arsenal's opponents in the Cup final on 3 May – beat Sunderland 4-0 to climb up to second place in the Premier League. The leaders, Leeds, are one point clear after a 1-0 win against Millwall.
