Lissie: Catching a Tiger
Illinois native Lissie will be doing the rounds of British festivals this summer but the easygoing MOR of her debut LP suggests that the garage forecourt is her spiritual home. This is undemanding, country-tinged pop intended to sell by the truckload. Some of it is likable enough, the Fleetwood Mac-aping "When I'm Alone" cruises along nicely, but any rougher-edged influences have been planed smooth. "Cuckoo" is like one of the Hold Steady's boozy rites of passage tales diluted out of all recognition, and the gospel closer, "Oh Mississippi", is mawkish in the extreme.
