Prince Charles to make first visit to Glastonbury festival
If Glastonbury all gets a bit much for Prince Charles, making a first visit to mark the 40th anniversary of the festival, he will be able to look up at dusk to admire the soothing sight of the medieval tower on Glastonbury Tor bathed in coloured light. Like the prince, the National Trust is visiting Glastonbury for the first time and is lighting the tower each night of the festival, from dusk till dawn, to mark the event – using LED low energy lightbulbs, obviously. The tower, high on its pudding-basin shaped hill, is a landmark visible for miles, including the higher fields on the festival site five miles away. A spokeswoman from Clarence House said the prince, not previously noted as a fan of festival acts Gorillaz, Snoop Dogg or the Scissor Sisters, was keen to mark the Glastonbury anniversary, and is visiting as president of Wateraid , one of three charities benefiting. He might find the National Trust's corner of the site something of a calming refuge: a "fresh air" bar, and a chill-out zone with headphones playing the sounds of birdsong and rippling water are on offer.
