Husband in court on postmistress murder charge
The husband of a postmistress found dead at her village store appeared in court today charged with murder. Diana Garbutt, 40, was found dead in the upstairs living quarters of Melsonby post office in North Yorkshire, on 23 March. A postmortem examination revealed she had suffered serious head injuries. Her husband, Robin Garbutt, spoke only to confirm his name during the 15-minute hearing at Teesside crown court. No pleas were entered during the hearing. The 44-year-old was remanded into custody by the recorder of Middlesbrough, Judge Peter Fox. He will next appear at Teesside crown court on 25 June for a plea and case management hearing. The murder investigation began after police responded to reports of a robbery at the post office in East Road and discovered Diana Garbutt's body.
