News of the World buys interview with Raoul Moat's ex-girlfriend

Sam Stobbart, the ex girlfriend of the late Raoul Moat, has been signed up for a News of the World exclusive this Sunday. Sources close to the negotiations, which were brokered between the publicist Max Clifford and the newspaper, indicate that Stobbart and the publicist will be receiving in the region of £150,000. However, a News International source disputed this figure. Clifford confirmed that a deal had been struck, adding that he had been approached by Stobbart's mother and father in order to "say what she wants to say". "I expect some of what she will have to say could be sub judice but that is a matter for the News of the World's lawyers," he said. Clifford also represented PC David Rathband, the policeman shot and blinded by Moat. It is understood that he was paid a sum in the region of £100,000 for his interviews, published earlier this week. Stobbart is still in hospital recovering after being shot by Moat. A spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service said they were not aware of the News of the World's interview. The spokesman added that it was too early to decide if Stobbart will be called as a potential witness in the trial of Moat's alleged accomplices, Karl Ness and Qhuram Awan. They have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and possessing a firearm. A News of the World spokesman declined to comment. • To contact the MediaGuardian news desk email [email protected] or phone 020 3353 3857.
