The CPS denies the claims. • Ministers are to crack down on excessive housing benefit payments by capping the rates paid to private landlords in a bid to stop families on benefit "living in palatial homes at the taxpayer's expense", says the Times. • Community bus social enterprise HCT Group, fromally known as Hackney Community Transport, is to raise £5m via an innocative new "social loan" to fund an expansion plan, reports the Financial Times. On the blogs There's a flurry of publicity in some of the newspapers about a blog written by Mark Cato, a 75-year old academic who writes (dictated via a voice-activated computer) with unsentimentality and candour about his experience of motor-neurone disease in Life Goes On. It's done with self-deprecating upper-middle class brio, mixing detailed, unselfpitying accounts of the everyday frustrations of disability with reflections on assisted suicide, and ruminations on his passion for rugby, golf and champagne.
