E.O. Hoppé and Ida Kar are two of the 20th century's most influential photographers. Hoppé Portraits: Society, Studio and Street Celebrated during his lifetime, much of Hoppé's work has only recently been reassembled and this major show will allow visitors to discover this forgotten master. The exhibition brings together his strikingly modernist portraits of personalities including Albert Einstein, Margot Fonteyn and King George VI with his fascinating photojournalist studies, which capture the realities of day-to-day life in Britain between the wars. Ida Kar: Bohemian Photographer Ida Kar was at the heart of the creative avant-garde as a shining star of the 1950s art world. Her subjects were the most celebrated figures from the literary and artistic spheres of the 50s and 60s and her portraits include artists such as Henry Moore and Bridget Riley and leading literary subjects including Iris Murdoch and Jean-Paul Sartre, Together they offer a fascinating insight into cultural life in post-war Britain. Hoppé Portraits runs until 30 May 2011 and Ida Kar runs until 19 June 2011.
